INFOCENTER FAQ
What does DMN stand for? DMN is an abbreviation for digitalmusician.net: a community of musicians connecting and collaborating on music projects together. |
Why do I have to register with digitalmusician.net? Registering enables you to share information about yourself with other members of the community and connect with them. You will have access to other members, join forum discussions and use our recording tool, the DMC for free. We do not pass any data on and do not even use the data internally in connection with any names. Registration also means that we can keep you informed about the latest news and updates. |
How do I find partners? The information you supplied on registration in integrated into the Talent Scout database that is searchable by talents and skillsets. Also on our Dashboard you can post “want ads” similar to those you would normally see on a music shop wall or in the back of newspapers and magazines. The Message Board and Talent Scout are available for all registered users. Both functions can be found in the “community” section of the digitalmusician.net website. To enter or change your personal details in the Talent Scout, follow these Steps: login/my account -> edit account -> edit talent scout. |
How do potential partners find me? The more details you enter in your registration and the correct wording in your Message Board posting helps other DMN community members find you by using the advanced search engine on digitalmusician.net |
I want privacy and do not want to contact anyone else – is that possible? Sure. Just have a look at your account settings and you will see that you have quite a few options. Tutorial is coming soon |
have 256 kBit/s Internet upload but the transfer is still 128 kBit/s You probably have a free account and data transfer is limited to 128 kBit/s. By upgrading to a Pro Account you can increase the bandwidth for more smoother communication with your partner. For further information on Pro Accounts please click here |
How do I transfer my data in CD quality? When recording with your partner you can send them the 128 kBit/s track (Pro Account holders 256 kBit/s) in real time and later transfer them the full quality (uncompressed) data using the “send file” function on the DMC. |
What is the difference between low and high compression? The lower the compression the higher the sound quality, but the file size is much larger which means longer data transfer times and higher storage space.Higher compression reduces the sound quality but the file sizes are much lower. |
What is VST? VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology and was developed by Steinberg as an audio software standard for plug-ins such as virtual instruments. The DMC supports VST Plug-ins. |
What is MIDI recording? Musical Instrument Digital Interface is an industry-standard electronic communications protocol that defines each musical note in an electronic musical instrument such as a synthesizer, precisely and concisely, allowing electronic musical instruments and computers to exchange data with each other. |
What is a router? A device in a network that handles message transfers between computers and/or the internet. |
What is an Internet broadband (ADSL) connection? Need text... |
How do I setup my router? Need text... |
Why do I have to change the router settings? The DMC requires a dedicated port (UDP 58116) to communicate directly with other computers. This port is fixed and this way your partner will find you every time and you will be able to receive invites from other DMC users. |
Can I connect to more than one person? Yes! The DMC makes a peer-to-peer connection between up to 3 users depending on the speed of the Internet connections. |
Can I use the DMC on the same network? No. On your router, you have to dedicate one port for the DMC and as it connects to the router and not your computer, it is not possible to dedicate the same port twice. |
What is peer-to-peer? Also called P2P, this is when two computers are directly connected to each other that act as servers and clients at the same time. |
What is video conferencing? Video conferencing is an integral part of the Digital Music Container. If you have a web cam you can connect to your project members visually giving you an additional level of communication. |
What is the licensing system? By placing your project in one of three categories (Creative Commons, Commercial Project or Studio Job) you can decide which type of rights management you wish to implement. This makes it clear for each project participant under which license category their work will be used. |
